Greece is a heaven for watersport enthusiast, characterized by its endless long white sandy beach, breathtaking blue colored water and the home of consistent winds. During these months there is bigger chance of swell formation but as well severe weather changes.īSTOKED KITESURFING EXPERIENCES IN GREECE Specifically, May, June, September, and October are months with the thermal wind. The Meltemi winds blow between July – August, during this period the wind is fairly strong and covers most islands of the Aegean sea as well Eastern coast of the mainland’s. When planning a kitesurf holiday in Greece, the highlight months are from beginning of June – mid September. ![]() The volcanic backdrops, remarkable vegetation, long siesta, the simplicity of life combined with its strong long hours of wind promises you a kiteboarding experience you would want to repeat over and over again.īelow are the top 5 reasons why Greece should be your next kitesurfing bucket list. Once you touch base on one of the islands, it feels as if Greece manages to take you back to what life was over 1000 years ago. Thanks to those who, a few months ago, responding to my requests on the site, advised me to go to the Greek islands to find a good wind in August.Greece in its essence is a truly special country with plenty of sun, fun and awesome kiteboarding conditions spread across an archipelago of 6000 islands. well served by the wind! I prefer this spot to Sardinia and Tarifa, other places where I have been, just for the certainty of finding wind and wind !! Ultimately, it is perhaps a bit inconvenient to reach this island, as there is mandatory stopover in Athens and often you cannot combine the two flights on the same day, but it is really a big "safe" swimming pool. There were also several cars with Italian number plates.įrom Paros, there are also organized trips for kiters to other places like Santorini, Naxos (where it says there is a beautiful spot). Unbelievable!Īs you can see in the photos, it is a place where many expert kiters go and it is on the agenda (or rather, in the order of the minute !!!) to see jumps of several meters in length and height, as well as tricks of each gender. Also, if, after my departure, windguru gave 10-15 days of wind at 30 knots. And, over 8 days, 5 were from 30-40 knots and 3, unfortunately, of flat calm. ![]() ![]() In Italy, however, I've never seen courses run in such wind conditions. it is an hour fully exploited without wind gaps and without long waits for "jamming" of departing kites! Moreover, it may be dangerous (I don't know!), But there the courses - even for real beginners - are held even if there are 35-40 knots. The only flaw is that an hour of individual course ranges from 70.00 to 100.00 euros. The seabed is sandy, apart from a few minor obstacles, which however do not disturb, and the water is low and just enough that beginners can try water departures for them an efficient dinghy service is always alert. The very fact that one always has in front of the island of Antiparos makes the kiter always feel safe in going out (badly that goes. The wind is side-on (here I ask you to correct if I misplaced the words, I tell you that the wind comes from 2/3 hours compared to the beach) and, dear Kiters, when we talk about wind in Paros, we talk about 30-40 knots, not gusty and always present, even at night! The spot is not beautiful for a normal tourist who does not kite, but for kiters it is perfect: kiting in Paros means Pounda beach with two equipped centers (the one you see in the picture is the first and has an area of about 500 square meters in which there is storage, reception, showers, ample space for mounting the kite, assistance, Iko courses), with a slice of sea large enough and that goes from the same Paros to the island of Antiparos ( which is seen in the background and where it is said to have Tom Hanks' house). Paros means 35-40 knots in total safety on an almost flat sea that is not inflated by the presence of kites. ![]()
